I have decided to continue the discussion regarding slang words.  I am sure that some of these are being used because they are essentially abbreviations for having to constantly type all the words that are what you mean.  Slang has been around forever.  Our phones, the internet and texting has actually made slang more mainstream than ever.

I want to start with some references to parties:

53X…sex

CU46…see you for sex

Dayger…party during the day

Function or Func…party

Kickback…small party

Rager…big party

Netflix and Chill…used as a front for inviting someone over to make out

Smash…to have casual sex

Sloshed…to be drunk

The Plug…someone who supplies alcohol or drugs

Molly…Ecstasy, a dangerous party drug

Throw down…to throw a party

Turnt…to be high or drunk

X…Ecstasy

Flex…a new way to say show off

Yeet…stand alone expression of excitement

Big Yikes…yikes or no way doubled

Lowkey…something you want to keep on the down low

Highkey…opposite of lowkey

Slay…someone looks amazing

Basic…boring, average or unoriginal

Bye Felicia…same as “good riddance”, saying goodbye to someone yet no one cares

Big Mad…you are extremely mad about something

Fauci Ouchie…reference to Covid 19 vaccine

Vaxxed…getting vaccinated

Mittens…a descriptive term for something that was not quite amazing but not too bad either

Cheugy…out of style.  Once you have mastered all this slang it will probably be cheugy.

This is not an exhaustive list of slang words.  I find the entire exercise very interesting.  Language continues to evolve.  I will suggest that you may try introducing some of these terms into texts with your children or grandchildren.  Be careful to use them correctly.  If you do they may think you are “Dope”, “Sic”, “Tope” or “Tight”.  You wouldn’t want to be “Sus”.  They may also wonder what the heck you are doing or if you have completely lost it.  I can tell you that the slang will continue to change and new words, abbreviations or acronyms will continue to surface.  If you are monitoring any of your children’s texts or emails knowing some of these might help or completely alienate you from your children.  This is sensitive stuff and if you are one of those “POS”(parents over shoulder) they might not be too happy with you and actually create a “Finsta”.  There is a fine line between being cool and being a “Tool”.  I am sure any of us would want to have someone “Spill the Tea”.  Also I hope that your children are going to get “Vaxxed”.  That none of them use” X” or get “Sloshed”.  Try to avoid “Throwing Shade” or being a “Noob”.  I also hope than none of the ladies will ever be “a Karen”or be described as “Emo”.  Spend time with the “Fam” or your “Squad”.  Don’t be someone who is “Thirsty”.  No matter how cool they think you are you probably will not be invited to a “Dayger”, “Kickback” or a “Rager”.  If you did go to one you might meet “The Plug”.  If you are not invited don’t have “FOMO” and remember “YOLO”.  Ask your children if they would like to “WTTP” or “LMIRL”, either of those might be fun.  Make the members of your “FAM” your “BFF’s”.  This entire article is getting a bit “Basic”so I will end the slang discussion here.  I am sure that many of you are probably thinking…”Bye Felicia” to me and I respect that.  I have gone down this rabbit hole and there doesn’t seem to be a bottom.
