About

I am Bob Hunsinger. I am retired.  Have had a wonderful life.  Married to Kathy, my girlfriend for 53 years, lost her in 2020.  Have 4 incredible children, 8 amazing grandchildren and one special great granddaughter.  Born in El Paso, TX at the end of World War II.  Raised in Wichita, Kansas.  Attended Wichita State University on a Golf Scholarship, married Kathy my senior year. Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation from WSU and ROTC.  Spent 4 years at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX… had Bobby and Marti during that time and left the military as a Captain in 1971.  Moved to San Jose, CA and went into Residential Real Estate and had Nanci and Jeffrey.  Moved to Grass Valley in 1980.  Eventually went to work for a Foodservice Company and after 6 years joined Wisconsin Tissue and sold toilet paper, paper towels and napkins for the next 30 years.  Have always loved writing but never had the time.  Enjoyed the best 53 years of my life with Kathy and the family and plan to share many of those experiences with you.  I know this blog will be cathartic for me because the emptiness and void left with Kathy’s passing needs to be filled.  I believe that this exercise will help me through this difficult time.  I can only say that the main reason I have been able to get to this point is due in large part to the support that my children and their families have given me each day.  I learned that they had a plan…one that Kathy and I were not privy to which dealt with the loss of either of us.  I have been piecing that plan together and all I can say is that we must have done something right to deserve these kids.  I want to dedicate this blog to them and to the memory of Kathy.  I still say things like “we don’t do that” or “we like to do this” it is hard not to include her in my everyday thoughts and activities.  I am sure that in time I will stop saying “we” but as things stand it will continue to happen.  My life has been full, my view of the world and events that have happened will weave the tapestry that is Hunsinger’s Half Acre.  I want you to enjoy reading about the things that our family experienced, my take on these things and the humor in them.  Think of this blog as a kind of comfort food for you with no calories.  That is a win… win.
